Bucharest Old Town: tradition, modernity – stories told in color for bygone times

The original artwork, signed April 2024, is part of a series of three artworks under the theme “dance of colors”. The size of the original artworks is 58x38cm. The central element is the chromatic selection to amplify the message communicated by the chosen subject. “Dance of colors” in the context of the Bucharest Old Town, in the interwar period, is centered on tones of royal blue and shades of cream.

The central subject: The atmosphere of the Bucharest Old Town in the interwar period was vibrant, cosmopolitan and effervescent, reflecting the diverse cultural and social influences that characterized the city between the two world wars. Bucharest was a city in full transformation, where traditions merged with modernity, and social life was lively and diverse.

In general, the old center of Bucharest, during the interwar period, was a lively place, a mix of tradition and modernity, with a cosmopolitan atmosphere, in which culture, fashion and social life merged in a fascinating way. This was a period of cultural brilliance and urban evolution, in which Bucharest was transforming into a top European city.

Color palette: The choice of royal blue tones evokes historical authority,  civilization and creates perception of things of high value. It is a color used in formal environments, in elegant designs and in scenarios where an impression of respectability and prestige is desired. As a perception, blue is a calm color, which induces a state of tranquility and serenity. However, royal blue in particular adds an air of nobility and refinement, bringing to the forefront a feeling of stability and security.

Cream evokes a sense of calm and comfort, being a color that does not distract attention and creates a perfect background to highlight other elements. It is a warm color, suggesting well-being and a sense of home. In this composition, cream is used to symbolize aging with dignity or subtle refinement. It is also associated with tradition and classic elegance.

Architectural drawings deeply influence the atmosphere of a living space, shaping the daily experience of those who inhabit it. They play an essential role in creating an atmosphere that supports both physical comfort and spiritual state. Through them, not only the visual appearance is influenced, but also the overall experience of those who spend time in that room.
