Description
Macca-Villacrosse Passage, Bucharest – the place where history and architecture blend perfectly into everyday life
Original work: Macca-Villacrosse Passage, Bucharest, signed October 2023, is a watercolor that is part of a series of three artworks that represented a special commission. The mission was to choose three different perspectives of a single place in Bucharest, a place where history and architecture blend perfectly into everyday life. A place where you can easily spend a whole day not wishing you could leave, three perspectives where time stands still. Macca-Villacrosse Passage, the CEC Palace and the Post Office Palace are the three chosen subjects; they give the pulse of the old center and tell beautiful stories about the emblematic historical buildings and streets full of history.
The central subject chosen: The Macca-Villacrosse Passage, Bucharest, inaugurated in 1891, is a covered passageway that connects Calea Victoriei and Strada Lipscani, by exiting the passageway from Eugeniu Carada Street. It is currently classified as a historical monument.
The passageway was intended to connect the National Bank with the busiest commercial artery of the same time. The passageway had a pragmatic role, to avoid congestion between the two important commercial arteries of Bucharest, Calea Victoriei and Strada Lipscan. At the same time, the passageway had places for small shops on the ground floor. The glass roof allows for spectacular natural lighting and gives an air of elegance and refinement to the space.
Color palette: All three artworks have a similar color palette given by turquoise and cream tones.
Turquoise is a color that combines shades of blue and green, it is associated with calm, tranquility and balance. At the same time, it is a color that stimulates creativity and encourages openness to new ideas. The use of turquoise tones creates a feeling of calm and reconnection, of relaxation and refuge.
Cream is a lighter and warmer shade of beige, it is associated with elegance, subtlety and simplicity. It is a neutral color, reflecting refinement and serenity.
The use of the cream and turquoise chromatic palette gives the opportunity to create contrast, evokes a sense of harmonization, refinement and clarity.
Architectural drawings deeply influence the atmosphere of a living space, shaping the daily experience of those who inhabit it. They play an essential role in creating an atmosphere that supports both physical comfort and spiritual state. Through them, not only the visual appearance is influenced, but also the overall experience of those who spend time in it at the same time.
