EDEL brings to life an important page in Romanian history – the coronation of the kings in Alba Iulia in 1922. Each card used in the game was hand-drawn, the cards are signed Diana IONIȚĂ August 2022.

“To mark the centenary of the coronation in Alba Iulia, we chose a complex graphic approach. We wanted each illustration to be memorable and elegant. Therefore, the paper used has a cool shade of gray, avoiding the usual white, to emphasize the uniqueness and solemnity of the moment. The chosen technique combines ink with watercolor in tones of dark blue, purple and ocher, to create a delicate, almost fairy-tale atmosphere, which invites the viewer to enter the royal story.” Diana IONIȚĂ

EDEL launch:
EDEL became available in Oct 2022 in the Cotroceni National Museum store. This represented a valuable opportunity to offer visitors, passionate about history and culture, an interactive and accessible way to discover the coronation of the kings in Alba Iulia in 1922. The centenary of this unique historical event deserves to be commemorated with an object that captures the essence of the three days of story, rendered through impactful graphics and an educational experience.

The association of the EDEL game with a prestigious cultural space such as the Cotroceni Museum gave it visibility and value. The game concept was designed to combine fluidity and entertainment with historical information, offering a unique experience that intertwines art with cultural heritage.

Design and inspiration:
Original concept: The EDEL project is realized in 2022 and includes 32 topics symbolically inspired by the date of the coronation (10.1922 → 10+22=32), each serving as an educational tool for players. The name EDEL, which in German means “noble”, reflects the spirit and elegance of the game. Based on the illustrations, a card game with simple rules was developed, accessible to anyone who has the desire to learn and appreciate numerical values. The game does not require advanced historical knowledge.

Thus, EDEL is an educational game, a unique souvenir, which brings to the fore the history of the Royal Family and the coronation, offering a pleasant and instructive experience for all ages.
